OUR PHILOSOPHY

WHY IS IT CALLED 10K ACADEMY?

"It takes 10,000 hours of intensive practice to achieve mastery of complex skills and materials"
- Malcolm Gladwell

10K Academy is based on Malcolm Gladwell's idea that in order to achieve mastery you must have 10,000 hours of intensive training. On average, youth players train/play 3-4 times a week for 1.5 - 2 hours each session. Over the course of the year (without any breaks between seasons) would be about 416 hours of total training and playing time throughout the year. Over the youth career of 12 years that would average to about 5,000 total hours. We are here to help the player that wants to take their game to the next level and have aspirations to play in college and professionally.

The philosophy at 10k Academy has been developed over the past 10 years by studying players' training habits and the habits of professional players across the world. The focus of 10k Academy is to systemize all of the aspects of player development in soccer. Usually, players will have to go to many different places to develop different parts of their game. 10k Academy offers all of these resources in one place. 10k Academy offers specialized drills in speed/agility training, ball work/technique development, and game intelligence development all in one platform. Each of these aspects are created by qualified coaches in their specialized fields.

ABOUT THE FOUNDER

Our founder, Blake Wellington, plays at Regis University (D2) in Denver Colorado and has grown up playing through the American development system. He started 10k academy in order to help the upcoming players achieve their dreams and to help them navigate their way through the ever-changing American youth development system. One of the biggest problems that Blake experienced during his time in the youth system was a lack of guidance on how to put an individual training regimen together. This is where 10k Academy was born. Blake founded 10k Academy in 2022 in order to lead the next generation of players to accelerate their development and systemize all of the different aspects of training required to play at the next level.
